Games, pizza, beer...this is not a bad career

Tuesday night in San Francisco -- after work, a bunch of us were invited by our old pal Doug at Valve Software come by Blondie's Bar & No Grill for a world-exclusive unveiling of the new map in Team Fortress 2, an awesome team-based shooter game that we play a lot of.

This is my idea of paradise: an open bar serving you whatever you want free of charge...towers of pizza boxes filled with North Beach Pizza pies for us to snarf...and two rows of computers where we could sit and play team-versus-team in one of the best games of all time.

Yes, this is what we do for a living. If you're a nerd (which I am), this is pretty tough to complain about. (Just get a load of the nerds in this photo...it's tragic.) As an added bonus, the PC Gamer team was in excellent form and we absolutely owned the opposition. (Nice work, Jeremy!)

Ah.. the good life. Must be nice. My biggest job perk would be a high tolerance for pain and ability to endure cramped uncomfortable conditions for an eternity. Well at least a really long time (I don't believe in eternity Thank God.)

I just taught 25 social studies students how to "read a photo" for information and I gotta say...this one depresses the hell out of me. Everything about it...the glow of technology contrasting with the dimness of humanity; the endless line of perspective making their numbers seem larger than necessary; the lack of motion in a photo where, technically, intense action is happening; that guy in the foreground with his slack-jawed, glossy expression...ugh. Creepy!

Oh, Miss Z -- can you "read a photo" for bad-assness? Because that's what this photo is chock full of.

Aaron, the downside is that you have to be in SF to do this, where it costs $400 a month just to park your damn car.

gotta to agree with your sister on this one....dimness of humanity. or would i say - males?

now even bars are a place to go to commune with a screen! - yikes. badassness? i think not. it's got to have the potential to hurt back to be real badassness.

and not a female in sight.....
well, i guess i may actually
comprehend the choice there (no offense kim and katie :)
